About HAPPY HIGHLANDS
Happy Highlands is an animal sanctuary in the Ennstal valley in Austria, run by Wolfgang and Isabella. Since 2022, our former Highland cattle meat farm has been a place where every animal may live as long as it wants. After years of working as a meat cow farm, we decided that the yearly slaughter was no longer something we could bear. Today, our 17 Highland cattle, along with horses, goats, and other animals, live here as individuals, not as livestock. For us, there is no difference between a horse, a cow, a dog, or a chicken.
We love sharing this life with visitors. Our experiences touch the heart, slow down the mind, and are quite an adventure. All income from our activities goes directly into keeping the sanctuary running. Our animals are always invited and never forced to take part in any activity offered and usually join in happily.

OUR EXPERIENCES
Cow Cuddling (September to May)
Meet our Highland cattle at our farm in Donnersbach. Most of the herd loves human contact and enjoys a good scratch. Have you ever cuddled a Highland cow with huge horns? It’s a very special animal experience.
Alpine Pasture Experience (June to September)
Join a guided hike to our own alpine pasture, where the herd spends the whole summer on 250 hectares of untouched wilderness. It is an exclusive experience in nature, with the chance to meet the cattle in their summer paradise and cuddle them.
Horse Experience
Spend time with our horse herd, who enjoys going on hikes with people.
Offers for companies
We also host team adventures for companies who would like to try something truly different.

BECOME A SPONSOR
You can sponsor one of our Highland cattle and support your chosen animal directly, so it can continue to live a happy life at the sanctuary and serve as an ambassador for farm animals everywhere. A sponsorship also makes a wonderful gift for cow lovers, and we are happy to provide a certificate. Sponsors are welcome to visit their animals.
A Note on Safety
Accidents with cattle on pastures and alpine meadows do happen. Please always keep as much distance as possible from cattle when you are out hiking. Only their owners know the animals well enough to ensure safe contact. If you would like to get close to a cow, we warmly invite you to visit us and experience it safely together with us.
